Paintbrush Care Mistakes to Avoid

Modified on Mon, 13 Oct at 6:19 PM

Proper care = longer-lasting brushes! Here are common brush care mistakes to avoid:

Leaving brushes bristle-down in water – This damages the shape and loosens the glue in the ferrule.

Using hot water to clean brushes – This can weaken bristles and cause shedding.

Not cleaning between colour changes – This leads to muddy colours and pigment build-up.

Letting paint dry on the brush – Especially with acrylics, dried paint can permanently ruin bristles.

✅ Instead, clean brushes gently with lukewarm water and mild soap, reshape them, and dry flat or hanging upside down.
