Acrylic Techniques for Beginners

Modified on Wed, 15 Oct at 3:13 PM

Acrylics are bold, fast-drying, and super versatile. Try these basics:

  • Flat Wash: Cover an area evenly with color using a flat brush.

  • Blending: Blend quickly while the paint is still wet for soft transitions.

  • Dry Brushing: Use very little paint for textured, broken color effects.

  • Scumbling: Scrub a thin layer of paint over dry paint to create a hazy or layered look.

  • Impasto: Apply thick paint with a brush or palette knife for texture and bold strokes.
